About Us

Company Background

Stock Resource has a team of highly experienced financial analysts and mining professionals that provide independent stock market advice. Our research covers the full range of ASX listed companies, irrespective of size or sector, and we specialise in cyclical stocks. Stock Resource believes that stocks with cyclical attributes can offer exceptional returns given the generally high volatility of their trading patterns, albeit with attendant risk.

Stock Resource places a strong emphasis on resource companies where it offers extensive coverage ranging from junior explorers through to the major diversified producers, as well as manufacturers and service providers related to the resource industries. Some of the more relevant S&P/ASX GICS sectors are classified below, along with the sub-sectors which are important in the Australian market.

As a natural consequence of our energy sector coverage, we also seek opportunities within the more defensive Utilities sector

These sectors comprise more than 25% of the ASX 200 while the traditional Resources sector, comprising the Mining & Metals and Oil & Gas sub-sectors, represents the largest component of these sectors.

Overall Stock Resource’s objective is to be transparent, accountable, and ethical. We believe that integrity is the central characteristic of every successful investor. Our independence in financial markets is derived from the fact that we do not execute transactions or provide investment banking services. Stock Resource’s principal focus is to therefore keep all Members satisfied by discovering and identifying quality stock recommendations.

The company was founded during February 2003 as Fat Prophets Mining, and changed its name to Stock Resource in September 2005 following a successful management buyout by co-founders Grant Craighead and Stephen Bartrop. Reports prior to September 2005 may include historical reference to Fat Prophets Mining, Fat Prophets and related entities, but Stock Resource retains no links with the Fat Prophets group of companies or its related entities.

Stock Resource is 100% owned by Breakaway investment Group Limited.

Philosophy

OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE INVESTMENT IDEAS THAT HELP YOU MANAGE YOUR SHARE PORTFOLIO AND ACHIEVE SUPERIOR RETURNS

At Stock Resource we aim to present Members with a broad range of investment ideas, with particular emphasis on the resource sector. We aim to pick the right stocks to invest in at the right time in the economic cycle. As an integral part of this process, we monitor influences on economic and business cycles closely.

Our recommendations identify when we believe a stock represents a good investment opportunity, and equally importantly, when it is timely to sell. Additionally, we provide regular updates tracking major developments for each of the stocks that we recommend during the investment time period.

Each of our share recommendations is backed up with concise reasons as to why we recommend investing, so that Members can determine whether a particular stock meets their investment criteria. In general, Stock Resource searches for stocks that have sound technical attributes and are either undervalued or represent a superior growth opportunity. Periodically we recommend stocks that provide leverage to a particular commodity if this is warranted by the underlying fundamentals of that particular commodity..

Stock Resource recognises the risk/reward trade off when investing. Resource shares frequently display a higher level of volatility than those of industrial companies, presenting equity investors with potential high rewards, but sometimes at an increased risk.

We aim to provide expert research that identifies key risks for each company and balances them against the potential rewards to derive a transparent and logical recommendation. Additionally we categorize our recommendations by risk (low, medium and high) and monitor the performance of the combined low/medium risk and separate high risk stocks in a hypothetical portfolio.

We accept that the key share price drivers for stocks can change rapidly and losses may occur. We do not win on every recommendation and sometimes hard decisions need to be made. However, our aim is to monitor the financial and commodity markets closely, continually balancing the risk/reward parameters and if necessary, revise recommendations in a timely manner.
